1. GP Kobe (Modern)


Poslední májový víkend patřil modernu, který se kromě Kobe hrál ještě na GP Kodaň a SCG Baltimore.

GP Kobe byl suverénně největší turnaj z této trojky, když ho navštívilo 2 798 hráčů, což je dokonce největší událost celého letošního roku.

Jak je v Japonsku zvykem, tak jsme byli svědky velmi rozmanité metagame a během víkendu bylo vidět spoustu zajímavých brew, ale i zajímavých karet v jinak ustálených decích.

V top8 bylo osm různých decků a z toho dokonce tři originální brew! Co se týče samotných hráčů, tak tam byli pouze tři hráči z předchozími zkušenostmi z top8 na GP a pouze jeden známý hráč, kterým byl Riochi Tamada (finalista PT Battle for Zendikar).

Ve finále se utkali Joe Soh s vlastní verzí Eldrazi & Taxes a Temumasa Kojima s Dredgem. Pro Terumasu to muselo být lehce frustrující, jelikož Joe Soh hrál už v mainu playset Reliců of Progenitus. Ve druhé hře navíc muliganoval až do čtyř karet...

Kromě Joe Soha a jeho vlastní verzí Eldrazi and Taxes, která se více podobala klasických midrange deckům, jsme v top8 mohli vidět Affnitu se zajímavými one-ofy jako Sea-Gate Wreckage, Inventor's Fair a zejména Collected Company, což je skvělý one-of, který pln využívá momentu překvapení.

Úplně nejzajímavější brew v top8 byl Esper Control Akio Chiby, který obsahoval playsety Pinful Truths a Glory-Bound Initiate. Docela by mě zajímalo, jak někdo na takovouhle kombinaci může vůbec přijít (hrát náhodnou bytost, která umírá na všechen removal na formátu a neposkytuje žádnou přímou value)...

Poslední neobvyklý deck v top8 bylo UWR Tempo se Spell Quellery, ve kterém byly dosti neobvykle playsety Logic Knotů a Electrolyze.

Pestrý field byl i mimo top8, v top32 můžeme napočítat přes dvacet originálních decků:

Velmi populární byly Collected Company decky, které v různých verzích obsadily v top32 sedm míst (když počítám i Elfy). Těšně devátý byl Kenta Masukado se čtyřbarevnou verzí, která hrála value package s Knightem of the Reliquary a Maguse of the Moon.

Tři další verze byly klasické Abzany, které obsahovaly ještě kombo s Kitchen Finksy. Specialitou byla Bant verze, která byla hybridem mezi Bant Knightfallem a Vizier kombem. S tou byl devětadvacátý Kelwin Chew, který si díky několika skvělým výsledkům v řadě dokonce dostal do top25 rankingu.

Další populární strategie byla samozřejmě Deeth's Shadow, u kterého aktuálně jako nejlepší verze vypadá Grixis s delve bytostmi a Stubborn Denialy. V top32 jsme ale mohli vidět i Esper verzi s Pathy a Lingering Soulsy a také 5C Speciál, který měl BG základ a splashe pro Temur Battle Rage, Rangera of Eos a Lingering Souls a Stubborn Denial.

Zajímavé decky v top32 byly například i RG Scapeshift s Madcap Experimentem, BG Rock s Tireless Trackery, nebo přímočará BR verze Goryo's Vengeance.

Pentad Prism

Sunburst (This enters the battlefield with a charge counter on it for each color of mana spent to cast it.) Remove a charge counter from Pentad Prism: Add one mana of any color to your mana pool.

Serum Visions

Draw a card. Scry 2 (Look at the top two cards of your library. Put any number of them on the bottom of your library and the rest on top of it in any order.)

Supreme Verdict

Několik dalších zajímavých decklistů bylo představeno v coverage. V prvním dni dosáhl na perfektní skóre 9:0 Genta Sakamoto s Esper Mentorem, ve kterém měl karty jako Smuggler's Copter a Sorin, Solemn Visitor.

Se zajímavým deckem pronikl do druhého dne Joe Lam. V podstatě šlo o BW Tokeny, ve kterých byla modrá splash pro Polymorph. Zajímavé bylo, že v decku hrál karty jako Hidden Stockpile a Gideon of the Trials. Turnaj zakončil se skóre 11:4, které mu stačilo na 107. místo.

Poslední zajímavý deck pochází z jednoho z pátečních triálů. Jde o Monored Hatebeary s malou splashí pro Nahiri. Kromě osmi Blood Moon Efektů v decku nechybí ani další hate v podobě Eidolonů of the Great Revel a Harsh Mentorů.

2. GP Kodaň (Modern)


Z pohledu českého hráče magicu byl nejzajímavější z trojice modernových turnajů ten v Kodani, kam se vydalo šestadvacet našich hráčů (a celkem 1 836).

Nejúspěšnější decky turnaje byly Death's Shadow a Dredge, jenž zabraly tři místa v top8. Grixis Death's Shadow navíc celý turnaj ovládlo v rukách Mattia Rizziho, ačkoli omylem hrál Flooded Strandy místo Scalding Tarn.

Druhý finalista byl Cristian Ortiz Ros s Living Endem. Living Endu se v Japonsku vůbec nedařilo, leč v Kodani obsadil dvě místa v top16.

Co se týče našich hráčů, tak z prvního dne jich postoupilo dvanáct, přičemž nejlepší pozici měli Martin Jůza a Pavel Tvrzník se skóre 8:1.

A zatímco Pavlovi se ve druhém dni moc nedařilo, tak Martin hrál až do posledního kola o top8. Nakonec ale v rozhodujícím zápase nestačil na Gifts Storm Matina Müllera, což znamenalo konečné šestnácté místo.

Možná vás překvapí, že jeho deck byli GW Elfové s Devoted Druid kombem. V decku byl jeden Vizier of Remedies coby cíl pro Chord of Calling, ale hlavní kombo-interakce spočívala v Ezurim, který spolu s Devoted Druidem umí produkovat celkem dost many a s párem Devoted Druidů dokonce "nekonečno" many.

Dalších sedm českých hráčů dosáhlo na pro pointy, byli to:

  • Ivan Gruber (11:4, 98. místo)
  • Miroslav Hlaváč (11:4, 102. místo)

Pokud se porozhlédneme po originálních decích, tak první na ráně je agresvní verze Death's Shadow s Tribal Flamy, se kterou byl osmý Gunnar Geißler.

Mimo top8 mě nejvíce zaujal Bring to Light Scapeshift v netradičních BUG barvách (hlavně kvůli Fatal Pushům), Dredge s novinkou v podobě Reduce//Rubble a Emeria kontrol, který využíval Gideona of the Trials v kombinaci se Sun Titanem.

Za zmínku také stojí dvojice Lantern Controlů v top32, přičemž Kim Ströh dokonce skončil třetí s verzí, která měla už v mainu playset Leyline of Sanctity.

V coverage bylo věnováno poměrně dost prostoru deckům postavených kolem As Foretold. Shahar Shenhar ho přidal do Nahiri Jeskaie, který vylepšil o dvojici Restore Balancí. V decku nechybí ani singleton Tolarie West, což je karta, která s As Foretold skvěle interaguje díky suspend kartám. Se skóre 11:3:1 obsadil pěkné čtyřicáté místo.

Druhý deck s As Foretold zmíněný v coverage byla variace "Time Walk" decku, tentokráte v UR barvách. Hlavní playoff karta s As Foretold tu bylo Wheel of Fate. Docela se mi líbí minimalisté pojetí, kdy je před sidem jediná karta v decku, která umí zabít soupeře Chandra, Torch of Defiance. S deckem uhrál druhý den se skóre 6:3 Marcus Ewald.

3. SCG Open Baltimore (Modern)


Ačkoli to byl nejmenší z trojky velkých modernových turnajů, tak se mohl pochlubit velmi pěknou účastí 903 hráčů.

Nejúspěšnějšími decky byly Vizier Comapny (12× ve druhém dni) a různé verze Death's Shadow (taktéž 12× ve druhém dni - z toho 6× Grixis verze). Překvapivě velmi populární ale byly i klasické decky jako Affinita (10× ve druhém dni) a Burn (7× ve druhém dni). Druhý den hrálo 79 hráčů, mezi nimiž bylo 34 různých decků.

Nejvyšší příčky po celou dobu okupovala samá známá jména. První den měl jako jediný 9:0 Reid Duke s oldschool verzí Jundu, ve které hrál mimo jiné Olivii a Grim Lavamancera. to byl ideální start pro ukořistění slotu v top8, což se mu nakonec povedlo, ale po špatném závěru si to musel uhrát v posledním kole.

Do top8 ho doprovodili další známí hráči jako Brad Nelson (Grixis Death's Shadow), Ben Firedman (Dredge), nebo Todd Stevens (Eldrazi Tron).

Nepřekvapivější deck v top8 byl Amulet Titan Jacoba Haversata a nejoriginálnější pro změnu BUG Death's Shadow Ryana Hovise. Tahle verze Death's Shadow se mi velmi líbila, jelikož může hrát Traverse the Ulvenwald (super se Snapcasterem) a zároveň má přístup ke Stubborn Denialům.

Ve finále změřili síly Brad Nelson a Ben Friedman a vítězem se stal Brad. Zajímavé je, že Ben měl u Dredge velmi nezvyklý side, kde bylo více kusů Engineered Explosives, nebo Mealstrom Pulse, namísto obvyklých odpovědí na hate enchantmenty jako Nature's Claim, nebo Abrupt Decay.

Zklamáním byl výsledek Vizier Company decků. Navzdory tomu, že šlo o nejhranější deck ve druhém dni, s ním pouze jeden hráč obsadil místo v top16. Se svou speciální verzí, která zároveň obsahovala Retreat kombo, obsadil 26. místo Eli Kassis. Speciálně bych chtěl upozornit na Harsh Mentora, kterého měl v sidu. To je excelentntí karta na mirror a celkově si myslím, že kvůli Vizier Company hodně nabral na účinnosti.

Z dalších zajímavých decků v top32 bych ještě rád zmínil Blue Moon s Madcap Experimentem, což je specialita Gerarda Fabiana, a také Abzan Midrange s Traverse the Ulvenwald, se kterým se dobře umístila Jadine Klomparens.
